SAND at Whyte Avenue Art Walk

PRESENTED BY

Watch as these carvers create art with sand!

Activate Arts Alberta (formerly Ice On Whyte Festival Society) is a non-profit arts organization that annually produces the Chiseled International Ice Carving Competition where our team of expert carvers chisel ice into magnificent snow and ice sculptures.

For the Whyte Ave Art Walk weekend these talented carvers are taking on the summer elements with sand carving. Watch these artists work live as they expertly transform piles of sand into a robust, magnificent sculpture!

These sculptures will be built all weekend long on 83 Avenue beside the old Old Strathcona Youth Society (OSYS) building, across from the Strathcona Farmers Market. And if you can’t make it out to the Art Walk, these beautiful sculptures will remain up until July 20 to see!

The featured SAND Artists are Cliff Vacheresse, Christian Denis, and Scott Van de Sande (of which you may have seen their works as part of the Works Art and Design Festival in 2025).

Thank you to Heidelberg Materials and ABS Trucking for providing and moving the sand!
