Apply to Volunteer

The 2025 Whyte Avenue Art Walk takes place July 11-13, 2025 and we can’t wait!

We’re hoping that most of our volunteers are ready to come back and participate in our outdoor extravaganza. In the meantime, here are some of the opportunities for volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities

7-10 am setup shifts

Volunteers will help direct traffic as artists park and unload, provide parking information if required, and help set up street signage. Artists set up between 7 am and 10 am, we want to help make this run as smoothly as possible, while keeping everyone safe. There might be circumstances where you see an artist struggling and it is appropriate to help. Many artists will unload and leave to park their vehicle, so we do our best to keep an eye on their gear.

9 am – 1 pm shifts

Volunteers on this shift might help with putting out signage, but the primary focus will be on the promenade. Volunteers are assigned to a zone for the duration of a shift. You stroll the zone, sit for artists who need a washroom break or make a run for food. You will not sell art, rather, you’ll let patrons know when to expect the artist to return, perhaps offer them an artist card. Artists will either flag you down, or text me to request help. I’ll text you to ask if you’re free to sit for an artist and share the location.

1 pm – 5:15 pm shifts

The primary focus will be on the promenade. The responsibilities are similar to the morning shift. Volunteers on this shift are asked to help bring street signage back to volunteer central.

Pre-festival

Art Walk engages with Whyte Avenue businesses prior to the festival, and just before the festival we put up posters throughout the neighbourhood. The city requires us to drop event notices off at affected businesses as a reminder of Art Walk, and to inform new businesses. We’ll do this on the two Saturdays below:

May 24, 2025, 1-5 pm – This will be our first approach, where we are basically reminding businesses that we’ll be back on the Ave. this summer.

June 21, 2025, 1-5 pm – On our second approach we visit businesses that are affected by street closures.

This is a fun activity because businesses are feel pretty positively about our event and look forward to it. It is my goal to have three volunteers for each of the two days.

I have always taken part in this activity, hopscotching businesses as a team, but I sustained an injury last fall that will keep me from doing the whole route with you. I will get you started, be available for questions, and meet you when you’re done for a snack!

Volunteer Orientation

Date: July 2, 2025, 6 pm
Where: Artelier Studios, 10045 81 Ave. (in the back alley) You can’t miss it, check it out!

Our volunteer orientation is strongly encouraged for new volunteers and welcoming to returning volunteers – you’ll feel confident and prepared to make the most of your Art Walk experience. We have a little fun decorating our volunteer aprons while we share some pizza, and you get to meet some of your fellow volunteers.

It’s mandatory to fill out our volunteer application before you sign up for shifts. The button below will take you to our online application:

For those of you who have volunteered in the past we’ve migrated to a new sign up interface, which is appropriately name SignUP! Give it a try!
