BE PART OF THE WHYTE AVENUE ART WALK
July 12 – 14, 2024 – Open from 10 am to 5 pm daily
On the streets of Old Strathcona in Edmonton, Alberta
The Whyte Avenue Art Walk is a non-juried visual arts event with 400 artists lining the streets of Old Strathcona to share their creative visual art during the second weekend in July. More than 40,000 patrons attend to buy art directly from the artists and watch as they create. All artists, brave enough to share their work, are welcome to participate
If you are an artist looking for a place to connect with patrons, The Whyte Avenue Art Walk is the place to be.
Registration for Whyte Avenue Art Walk is a 2-step process.
STEP 1
You will follow the link below to our payment portal and choose either a 10×10’ tent space ($220 +GST), a 5×8” table space ($110 +GST), or Sunday only spot ($110 +GST). You’ll notice a modest increase in prices this year, the first since 2017. We’re sure that you can appreciate that the price of everything has gone up. As with every other festival, business, or household, our costs to produce this festival have increased dramatically over the past year. We’re paying more for everything from infrastructure, and insurance, to city fees, while grants have either remained stagnant or disappeared. To remain viable and maintain the integrity of our world-class event we need to balance the books.
Once you’ve chosen your space and paid for it, you’ll receive a receipt from Stripe’s payment system for your purchase, and a second email from us with further instructions on how to complete STEP 2, which is artist registration.
IMPORTANT: If you don’t receive both of these emails please check your junk/spam folder.
Those of you who participated in 2022 or 2023 will remember we used the Igniter payment system, but this year you’ll notice we’re using Stripe’s payment system.
STEP 2
Step 2 will be more fully described in the email you receive from us after you pay for your spot. Step 2 is where you let us know if you have a location preference, an artist you’d like to be near, and you’ll upload the images you want to appear in the gallery, and the social media handles that help patrons reach out to you.
You’ll be fully registered after we review your images to ensure your work is visual art, match your email address with your payment, and receive a final welcome confirmation email.
We’re pretty excited to be bringing Art Walk 2024 to the streets, alleys, sidewalks, and parks of Old Strathcona, and we hope you’ll bring your magic!
As always, if you have any trouble navigating you can always email us at info@activateartsab.ca. As we did last year, we’ll be holding office hours on Fridays and Mondays each week, 10 am-4 pm (except for Easter Monday and the May long weekend) from April 1 until the event. You’re always welcome to drop by – we’d be happy to see you. Our office is still at 10447 86 Ave., upstairs in the Old Strathcona Railway Society building. You’ll need to ring the doorbell and we’ll come down to let you in. During office days you can also reach us by phone at 780-758-5878.
Guidelines for Registration
Each display must be ORIGINAL artwork, though 25% can be prints or recreations of your work. Watching artists create is a big part of the experience for patrons. Creating at your site is encouraged, and is a real icebreaker.
In general, sharing spaces is not considered. Most importantly, we want you to create a space that allows the eye to settle on a cohesive body of your own work, free from the distraction of another style.
Once again we are looking for original works of art. For example, all of the following can be considered visual art :
- Oil painting
- Acrylic painting
- Watercolour painting
- Encaustics
- Drawing (graphite, charcoal, soft or oil pastel, other dry media)
- Sculpture (stone, clay, metal)
- Mosaic paintings
- Printmaking (etching, silkscreen, lithography, woodcuts)
- Caricatures and Portrait Drawings are encouraged
- Photography and digital art (limited spots)
Are you a jeweler or an artisan whose work doesn’t quite fit the Art Walk criteria? Do you create wearable art, or functional art? We partner with On the Spot Pop Ups to provide a space for you to participate in the fun. They are in a great location in the heart of the Art Walk. Watch this space for On the Spot Pup Ups 2024 registration information.

Artist Orientation Sessions
We will have two online artist orientations to help you navigate this year’s Whyte Avenue Art Walk, a first-time artist orientation, and a refresher for returning artists. First-timers are required to attend an orientation. It’s where we unlock the mysteries of Art Walk, and it’s where you’ll get tips for displaying your art, prepping for the big weekend, and have your questions answered.
