info@activateartsab.ca

Whyte Avenue Art Walk (WAAW) and Activate Arts Alberta (AAA) are committed to fostering respect, empathy, and understanding among artists, staff, volunteers, and attendees. This Code of Conduct helps ensure a positive, welcoming, and safe environment for everyone.

Expected Conduct

  • Treat everyone with kindness, courtesy, and respect.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Recognise and value the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs of others.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, organization policies, and local laws.
  • Report any behaviour or situations that feel unsafe or uncomfortable to the WAAW team.

Unacceptable Behaviour

  • Harassment, bullying, or discrimination of any kind, whether verbal, physical, or visual.
  • Attending the event while excessively under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
  • Engaging in illegal activities.
  • Failing to follow safety procedures, organization policies, local laws, event guidelines, or staff instructions.
  • Any behaviour that contributes to a hostile or unwelcoming environment.
  • Unauthorised busking, playing musical instruments, or selling or displaying art or products without permission.
  • Carrying or displaying large signs, flags, or objects that create hazards or obstruct access for participants, physically or visually.
  • Any behaviour that creates, or is likely to create, a disturbance.
  • As WAAW is an important income source for members of the visual arts community, behaviour that disrupts the event’s arts market operations will not be tolerated.

Photography

Visitors must obtain express permission from individual vendors before taking photos or videos of them, their displays, or their merchandise.

WAAW staff, contractors, and local media may take photos or video recordings of the market for promotional or informational purposes during the event. By attending, you consent to being photographed or recorded.

WAAW is committed to addressing concerns promptly and appropriately. Anyone who engages in unacceptable behaviour may be asked to leave and may not be permitted to return. Further action may include banning participation in future WAAW and AAA activities and reporting to authorities when necessary.

These measures help ensure that every event remains welcoming, enjoyable, and safe for all.
