Paul Twa is an artist and designer from Edmonton, Alberta. Currently, Paul is studying visual communication design at the University of Alberta. Recently he began exploring the art of printmaking, working with techniques such as woodcut, linocut and silkscreen printing. These labour-intensive processes allow Paul to create prints that are rich with meticulous detail and symbology. Additionally, Paul uses collage to create surreal compositions. Using old LIFE magazines from the 1950s and National Geographics, these collages evoke themes regarding reality versus fantasy, space exploration, and the American dream. Pairing that which is nostalgic and familiar with the alien allows for dynamic, uncanny, and sometimes humourous imagery.
