Born in Egypt and raised in Canada, my work is mainly inspired by my longing to capture the beauty, and balance the duality, of both cultures.
I originally dreamed of being a fashion designer and pursued studies at The Art Institute of Vancouver before realizing that the distance may quite literally break my mother's heart. Moving back to Alberta, I shifted my focus to graphic design at NAIT before deciding that being a 'struggling artist' may in fact break my heart. So as a final attempt to keep my love for art & design alive, I declared a fine arts minor at the University of Alberta...before finding out that artistic all-nighters and psychology exams do not exactly pair well.
However, after 2 years of using my social sciences degree in the social services field and coming close to adding an anxiety disorder to my repertoire, I returned to my first love for comfort. Like most rekindled relationships, it was an awkward start. But after a few arguments and many heart to hearts, it looks like this relationship will be a lasting one after all. The proof is in the paintings. (And ink pieces.)
