Leslie Holmgren

“ Paintings by Les” Medium working in: Acrylic and Felt Pen Les is a recently retired lady who is now able to follow her passion to create vibrantly colorful paintings of people and places she has visited and seen. Her paintings are heavily influenced by her travels to Mexico where vibrant colors in buildings, landscapes and the people are common. While the majority of her paintings have been created from her own photographs taken during her travels, they are not intended to be accurate copies of those places but .quirky versions of those pictures. Initially Les started to paint after retirement for the purpose of developing a hobby where she could happily lose many hours in a pastime she enjoyed. She has only taken 3 short courses to help her start this process. Initially she had no intention of selling any paintings to the public however, after a number of people approached her and requested to buy one of her paintings, she decided to try to sell them to the general public in art walks. She has now been in a few art walks like the Whyte Avenue Art walk and Strathearn Art walk and has found she has been quite successful. She has learned many things during this journey. It has been fun and she is still always a little surprised when people like her work enough to either buy it or commission her to paint a special picture for them. She believes it is her use of color in combination with subject matter that appeals to people. She LOVES color…vibrant brilliant color. Her paintings reflect the world as she sees it.
