My motivation stems from my previous battles with cancer over the past four years. When I was first diagnosed with testicular cancer I truly felt my mortality. This radically changed my perspective on life. With this new perspective I started seeing people as materialistic animals who are trying to disguise their animalistic nature. Currently my motivation for my work is largely based on a contrast of animals in formal attire. These opposites are intended provoke thoughts based on the raw truth of who we are and to challenge a projected idea that with formality comes civility. I capture this effect through a surreal anthropomorphic style using bright, bold colours typically rendered with acrylic or oil paint on canvas. No matter how these animals present themselves, no matter how they dress, and no matter how they try to blend in, we will always see them as animals, because it is the truth, and we, ourselves, are animals.
