I recently heard the short statement “Reverent Wonder” and I immediately loved it. Paul Strisak in his book titled “The Art of Landscape Painting” says a few things that will help you understand why I like this quote.
Firstly, the artist’s real contribution is the expression of his/her own reaction to the world around them. Secondly, what you have to say is the most important thing. More than subject, medium or technique. And thirdly, your eyes don’t tell you what to paint, your mind and feelings do.
When I look at the created world around me, whether I am seeing people, nature or man-made structures I sense a wonder at the beauty of it all. I paint to express what makes me love this world.
