C. Paul Horsman is an Edmonton Alberta based artist with a particular interest in the beauty of rural and urban Alberta. Paul grew up in Edmonton and has recently returned to painting after a several year hiatus. Through the medium of oil and acrylic, he captures the ever changing prairie landscapes through the seasons, from the vibrant colour of canola and flax fields in summer to the more muted tones of early autumn and winter. According to the artist, one of the wonderful benefits of living in a northern climate, is witnessing the different quality of light throughout the year. Paul currently is working on several pieces featuring the familiar Edmonton skyline and hopes to have several new pieces finished just in time for the upcoming ArtWalk.
I am an artist that draws most of my inspiration from the landscapes and cityscapes of Alberta where I’ve spent so much of my life. I enjoy travelling all over the world, when I get the chance, but most often it’s the local canola fields, summer storms or the frosty skyline of Edmonton in mid winter that become the prominent subjects of work on my easel. I guess I truly am a product of my surroundings and feel fortunate that I’ve had the privilege of calling Alberta home for so many years. My work is mostly in the medium of oil on canvas but recently I’ve also enjoyed experimenting in acrylics.
